4 Steps to PRESERVE YOUR Wardrobe Right Now

It’s your wardrobe now. How will you start to preserve your wardrobe to make your clothes last? Here are 4 easy tips to help you out for the long run.

1)    Mend YOUR Clothes or Tailor it

Is there a rip in your dress? Did a button fall off your favorite shirt? Don’t throw it away or buy another one. The best thing is the take it to the cleaner’s or local tailor or mend it yourself. You can buy a sewing kit at any local drug store and mending books are available but my recommendation is “Mending Life” by Nina Montenegro & Sonia Montenegro (hardcover published by Sasquatch books)

If you are really into sewing, a more extensive selection can be found on any sewing website that can include anywhere from basic sewing kits to more extensive selection of colored thread, needles, buttons and whatnot. Not into sewing? Ask your local tailor or dry cleaner if you can have them tailor the piece or if there’s a monthly discount for regular services.

2)    Use a DIY oil spray or Spot treat

It’s so important to avoid unnecessary washing usage if your clothes are not dirty or smelly. Simply air dry your piece of clothing with a simple spray (tap water is fine), or use linen spray DIY directions. Also, spot treatments are always easy to do with so many already store bought products in your linen closet or under your bathroom sink. Check out this DIY Homemade Stain Remover.

3)    Hand Wash with Old Fashion Soap:

I realize we are going through a pandemic, but if it’s one piece of clothing or a delicate know washing your delicates or even your workout clothes can take less time and water.  A washer can use between 29-45 lbs (15-25 efficient ones) of water per regular load. However, the delicate cycle is known to use more water than any other cycle. Plus, the delicate cycle, can release more than 800,000 more plastic microparticles than regular cycle (Newcastle University). So, be mindful and know a quick scrub of 5 minutes of a soak and hand wash, 5 min or rinse and dry can be worth it.

4)    Wear protective clothes or change clothes

It’s so important to protect and take care of your clothes when cooking in the kitchen. Apron wearing is so easy especially when you are double duty with dishes that day. Men who wear aprons are especially impressive and attractive. Also, when outside riding your bike or running an errand change your clothes and air dry right away to get any smells and change in to other clothes more durable like jeans and a tee.
